Participating in a world of good
2009.01.10
We made the semifinals in Echoing
Green's 2009 Fellowship application process! We'll
be evaluated with 299 other world-changing enterprises. Good
luck to our fellow change agents. Together we can transform lives.
We might as well. We don't have anything better to do right now.
Suzy Combs Signs with Art of Possibility Studios
2008.10.07
Wildlife artists Suzy Combs joins Art of Possibility Studios to
bring her fine art painting to a larger audience. Painting animal
and lodge motifs on organic materials from the woods around her
(hides, rock, wood), Suzy was a "natural fit" for the
Art of Possibility. Born partially deaf and with continued
hearing loss throughout her life, Suzy takes a philosophical approach,
reminding us that "It's easier to listen to God" without
sound bombarding and distracting us.
Enid Swift Designs Signs with Art of Possibility Studios
2008.03.26
Designer Enid Swift joins Art of Possibility Studios for exclusive
representation of her trend-forward work. Swift's Army career was cut
short by a rare neurological disorder that has compromised her daily
life. Her can-do personality directed her back to the creative expression
through art she enjoyed as a child and she now focuses on the elements
of design to bring order and stability to an increasingly distracted
world.
George Mendoza Signs with Art of Possibility Studios
2008.03.21
George Mendoza signs with Art of Possibility Studios for exclusive
representation of his art to licensees. An author, athlete, artist, and motivational speaker declared to be a state treasure by New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson, Mendoza's work has touched millions of lives through a rigorous gallery show career and numerous appearances.
The PBS documentaries "Visions of the Soul" and "The George Mendoza Story" (narrated by Robert Duvall) chronicle this accomplished man's life despite his blindness from macular degeneration as a teen. William Buchanan's book, Running toward the Light chronicled Mendoza's vision loss.
Mendoza has written three books: A Vision of Courage, The Spirit Man Trilogy, and Cup of All Good Things.
Making Art Matter by Making Art That Matters
2008.01.26
Art of Possibility Studios won one of 6 awardee spots in Micro to Millions, a business development incubator program sponsored by Count Me In for Women's Economic Independence.
Art of Possibility Studios exclusively represents physically disabled
artists via license to manufacturers interested in developing products
that connect with consumers on a meaningful level and through an exclusive
luxury stationery line. Founded by award-winning blind artist Ketra Oberlander, the agency's goal is to encourage and inspire people in their daily lives.
Count Me In for Women's Economic Independence created the Make Mine a Million $ Business program to provide money, technology, mentoring, and marketing help to women business owners in propelling their businesses to the million-dollar mark. Only 3% of all women-owned businesses in the U.S. top a million in revenues. Corporate sponsors include American Express, AIG, Cisco, FedEx, QVC, JetBlue, Marriott and Dell.
"I'm absolutely thrilled," Oberlander asserted, "Count Me In recognizes that I have a good idea - a worthy idea - and the professional development Count Me In offers will teach me the requisite skills to make a worthy idea a working reality, helping me and other disabled artists earn a living." Speaking from her Silicon Valley home studio, Oberlander continues, "within a few miles of my garage are the garages where other worthy ideas began, grew and changed the world. By creating a for profit business vehicle for physically disabled artists I'm introducing a way for consumers to express a caring human connection, not charity, through their purchases."
